Today,
Susan G. Komen for the Cure is credited as the
world's leading catalyst in the fight against breast cancer
with more than 75,000 volunteers working through 118 Komen
Affiliates in communities nationwide, as well as international
Affiliates in Germany, Italy and Puerto Rico.
The survivors are the strength, hope, and inspiration for all
of us. We know we are on the right path when each year we see
more pink T-shirts (worn only by survivors) at the Komen CNY
Race for the Cure.
Each year, the Komen CNY Affiliate hosts a dinner to pay
tribute to our survivors; Heroes in Pink. It is truly a celebration! |
Meet
our Survivors
Despite the tremendous advances
in the medical and scientific fields, sometimes the best
therapy is the knowledge we are not alone in this fight - together
we can make a difference.
Some of the Central New York
Komen Survivors who have been touched by the mission of our
Affiliate share their heartfelt stories with you. Each month
we will highlight a survivor's story.

Support
For women and their families, a diagnosis of breast cancer can
be overwhelming. Support groups can provide a confidential and
supportive arena where the many challenges of living with cancer
can be shared with others with similar experiences.
Since every support group is different, it is
often helpful to visit several groups to determine where you
feel most comfortable.
The CNY Komen Foundation Affiliate does not
endorse any specific support group, but provides this list as an
informational service. Click here
for a listing o support groups in the Central New York Affiliate
service area.
For those who are
not comfortable joining a group or who cannot
easily get to a meeting there are online support
groups that can be one of your best bets in
coping with cancer. You still maintain somewhat
of your anonymity, which helps many become more
candid about their feelings, fears, and
frustrations. Plus, you can discover information
and tips that you might not have been aware of
about your disease.
Here are some online cancer support groups
definitely worth checking out:
