Fundraising FAQs

Q: What is the cost to Register for the Race?
    Adult:
  $30 online by May 10th.  In-person Registration at Shoppingtown Mall or on Race Day: $35
    Student (ages 13-18): $20 online. In-person fee: $20
    Kids for the Cure (ages 12 and under): $15 online or In-person.
Note: You must register to receive a Race t-shirt. Your Registration fee helps to cover the cost of operations but personal giving and fundraising is what enables Komen to save lives here locally.

Q. How can I get checks or cash to show up on my Progress Thermometer?
It's this easy

  1. Log in to your Participant Center
  2. Click on the middle tab called PROGRESS
  3. Click on the button toward the right called $$ ENTER NEW GIFT
  4. Enter the gift information
  5. Include all gifts on a PLEDGE DONATION form

Q. How can I earn pledge rewards for the donations I raise?
Participants can earn pledge rewards until June 15th. Please visit the Pledge Rewards Page to see the various rewards at the $250 level all the way up to the $10,000 level. Remember, our highest fundraiser also will receive an American Airlines Round-trip ticket to anywhere AA flies in the continental United States!

Q: Does the Komen Race for the Cure® require fundraising?
You are not required to fundraise, but we do encourage all participants to fundraise above the entry fee. Just Imagine the IMPACT - If every Race participant raises just $100 in addition to their registration fee, we would bring in an additional $1million to support local screening, treatment and educational programs in our community! For donations on behalf of an individual participant or a team, please include that information with your check.

Q. Where can I turn in donations in-person?

  1. At Shoppingtown Mall (right across from RiteAid and next to Auntie Anne's Pretzels)
    • Friday, May 6th from 4pm - 7pm
    • Saturday, May 7th from 11am - 1pm
    • Thursday, May 12th from 10am - 8pm
    • Friday, May 13th from 10am - 5pm
  2. On Race Day! Saturday May 14th in the Center of Progress Building

Q: Is there a deadline for fundraising?    
All donations on your behalf that are received by June 15, 2011 will be credited to your fundraising total. Pledge Rewards will be determinded based on your pledge total as of midnight June 15th. Your registration fee is NOT included in the total.

Q. What are some ways I can fundraise for my team/my individual goal?

Q: Is my registration fee tax-deductible?
No, your registration fee helps defray the costs of producing the Race and is not considered tax deductable. However, any amount that you choose to donate above the entry fee is tax-deductible.

Q: Does the money raised stay right here in our community?
Yes! Up to 75% of the net income from the Race stays right here in our community to fund vital breast cancer health educationa and breast screening and treatment programs. The remaining 25% supports the Komen for the Cure Award and Research Grants Program, which funds groundbreaking breast cancer research.

Q: How do I form a team?
To be considered an official team, you will need 10 or more registered members by May 3rd. You can form a team or join a team online. For more information, contact race@komencny.org, or visit the Team Information Page under Race Information.
