Komen CNY Leadership Speaks to Komen and Planned Parenthood

By now, most of you are probably aware of the controversy and questions regarding Susan G. Komen for the Cure’s recent revision of its granting strategy and performance criteria, as well as the potential impact these revisions may have on Planned Parenthood and other grantees.  Like you, the Komen Central New York Affiliate is concerned about these changes, and together with many other Komen Affiliates, we are in discussion with Komen National headquarters about this issue. Our primary reason for doing so is to ensure that we do all we can to protect you, our supporters, and to assure that the funds you have so loyally invested in our work here in Central New York are put to the best possible use to advance our mission in the fight against breast cancer.

The Komen Central New York Affiliate assures all of you that we remain committed to – and are more passionate than ever about – our promise to stop at nothing until ALL women in Central New York receive the breast cancer screening and breast health services that can both enrich and save their lives. Just as breast cancer does not discriminate when choosing its victims, neither does the Komen Central New York Affiliate when identifying and reaching out to those most in need of our help. We will continue to do whatever it takes to embrace all women…of all generations, lifestyles, cultures and level of need…in the support and empowerment that make us a leader in the local breast cancer movement.

Over the past 20 years, the Komen Central New York Affiliate has proudly

               Distributed more than $4.5 million in grants to local organizations for breast health outreach

               Contributed approximately $1.5 million to the Komen National Research Grant Program

               Helped to fund thousands of free mammograms for women in need in Central New York

With your continued support, activism, and trust, the Central New York Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure looks forward to continuing our leadership and service excellence in the fight against breast cancer by doing whatever we can to fill the gaps in service and embrace as many communities as possible in the support, knowledge, treatment and hope that can save lives today and lay the foundation for a future where this horrible disease is no longer a threat to ANY life.
